It was all a dream! Erik aka DJ Short-E is originally from Brooklyn New York, where he began to fall in love with the powers of music and television. At first, Michael Jackson & Madonna were his favorite childhood artists and inspirations. Throughout his 25 year career, he has mixed at some of the HOTTEST spots in New York to Tampa Bay, Miami to Los Angeles to South Africa! He also launched an independent record label and interviewed countless celebrities and stars along the way for his self produced TV show.
At age 10, Short-E already showed signs of a future entertainer when he began to distribute self-made paper tickets to his lunch-time shows and performances in elementary school. At age 14 he picked up a love & passion for DJing when he heard Hot 97’s FunkMaster Flex mixing and scratching on-air. After begging his parents for months, he finally got his first set of turntables as a birthday gift and just like that, a DJ was born. He would throw notorious house parties in his basement which created a buzz and gained him popularity in his High School and others. Soon after, in 1994 he was hired to DJ the home-coming dance. The rest as they say….is history!
After graduating high school in 1996, Short-E took his movement to Tampa, FL. where he obtained his Bachelors degree in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida. He made a name for himself at first by mixing at the bars and clubs in the Ybor City circuit, but gradually took things to another level when he began to throw his own events and parties.
As he pursued an on-air position, Short-E evolved and in 2004 he launched Hot4eva Entertainment and “The Short-E Show”, a late-night TV program which he paid to air on UPN44 Tampa at first. Celebrities would embrace and endorse his show when he approached them for an interview during his club gigs or at a red carpet event. At that time Short-E was known for throwing the best classy Hip Hop/R&B parties in Tampa Bay. He was the resident DJ and the driving force behind the success of legendary venues such as Fox Jazz Club, Rain Lounge, Club Skye, Headliners and Blue Martini from 2000-2005.
During those years, Short-E signed a handful of wonderful Tampa talent and produced an album & music video for a rapper named Verbal Science. In 2007, after a few years of hard work and dedication, the track “Whatchu Ridin On?” started to get a local buzz in the Bay area and almost landed them a record deal with a major label after the the video came close to winning an on-line music video contest. They placed 2nd overall, nationally!
In the summer of 2008 Short-E circled back home to New York, where shortly thereafter; YouTube took notice of his unique video content and offered him a partner show deal which allowed Short-E to monetize his videos while reaching people from around the globe. When it was all said and done, he accumulated over 110 million views and 250,000 subscribers which landed him the YouTube Silver Creator Award after 10 years of hard work and dedication!
In 2010 he headed back to Florida where his popularity hit an all-time high after he hosted Diddy’s Super Bowl party at Dolce Nightclub in South Beach Miami. In 2011 the Tampa Bay Times published a full page article about his progress while highlighting his ambitions to become an aspiring mogul.
Since then, Short-E was once gain on the move, he had no choice to expand his brand to the west coast in October 2013 where he made his presence felt in the great city of Los Angeles! After a couple of years of networking he got a call to to headline at the world famous Supper Club in Hollywood and made 2 special guest DJ appearances on Revolt TV.
Knowledge is power and Short-E never stops learning! In 2018 he accepted an internship opportunity at FOX13 News in Tampa and produced an official reporter reel.
No job is too big or small and the grind never stops… Most recently, DJ Short-E strategically invested to air his program every Saturday late-night at 2AM on THE CW channel in Las Vegas, arguably the BEST nightlife market in the world!
Last but not least, he is still actively pursuing his dreams to one day host his own syndicated radio/television show and getting signed to a major record label.
